or My 1st Pattern!
Now this pattern is inspired by a combination of two patterns, neither of which were quite what I was looking for. So I do feel a little strangely calling this ‘my’ pattern but don’t they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery?
I have been thinking of something like this for awhile – the disposable Swiffer cloths were always tweaking my eco-loving conscience and not in a good way. Since we installed hardwood floors I have also been focusing on finding a soft but scrubby cloth that does not leave streaks – not as easy as it sounds.
Last night, while watching Hamlet and trying to ignore the shouts from the people I refer to as our Drunken Neighbours (which incidentally stopped rather suddenly at 12:30?! Unheard of.) I created this cloth.

You will now have something that looks like this:
Place your cloth centered on your mop head, fold the ends over the surface and pin them in place like so:
With wrong side facing, stitch the edges together. Then fold them 1-1.5″ inwardly and stitch down – creating a little pocket. Weave in all ends, turn inside out and voila!
A snug, reusable, earth friendly alternative.
Wanna see how it worked?
Great pattern. And a very good one for your first pattern! Gotta love that there are no streaks!
We also have those same neighbors right behind us! What makes me upset is she is out partying while her husband is fighting in the Army.
Awesome job!
Woohoo now i can buy a swiffer. I just couldn’t justify it when i knew i’d have to use throw aways. Nice job! 🙂
What a good idea, thanks for sharing.
Oh aren’t you a clever girl! I never even thought of building such a thing. Hmm- must go look in my cotton stash……….
What a great idea! We have a swiffer and I hate using it because of its disposable nature. Plus we have tile floors which seem to be harder for the Swiffer to pick up on. I’ll have to try this!
That is a great idea! Thanks!
What a super idea ! Thanks for sharing the pattern .
Wow, this is totally awesome, what a great idea! Thanks ever so much for sharing, I will definitely try this one out!
What a fantastic idea!!!
I love it. I wish I could knit in cotton; the gauge gets all weird. You rock!
Just curious would it work on laminate? We are in the process of installing laminate.

AWESOME. Got rid of my disposable cleaning supplies b/c the waste aspect was just killing me! I feel kinda stupid for not thinking of this as I’ve made 20+ ballband dishcloths for myself and my friends to be more eco-friendly. DUH. I guess it just takes someone who’s really thinking outside the box and drunken and disorderly neighbors to inspire them! 🙂 Great 1st pattern!
I’ve got a question on your pattern. I realize it’s been a bit since you’ve written this pattern up, but was wondering if you remember a few things.
On rows 3 through 6 are the slipped stiches supposed to line up – in otherwords is it actually the same stitch, slipped for 4 rows?
If you remember I’d appreciate an email. Thanks
