I believe it was a flashback to when he was a child and his dad came in after losing a patient and he told little Jack...basically, no matter what you choose, it will be wrong. correct me if need be....it has been - years since I watched that episode. it’s been, literally years since I’ve seen season one….I, like izi, seem to have watched the first episode 10 times!
